Has anyone gone from 4WD to 2WD?
I have a 73 GMC SWB 4WD and looking to get read of excess weight so I thought the NP205 and frond end would be a good place to start.
I already have a 4WD truck and have no plans of ever taking the 73 off road. I also want to lower it a bit. I have to replace the transmission anyway from a TH350 to a TH 400 to hold the 454's power. Has anyone done this conversion? What kind of problems did you run into? What did you do to located your upper and lower A-frames on the frame? What about the trans cross-member any suggestions? All ideas and suggestions are welcome.

It will end up with a nice strong 454 in the end. It has not been run for 20+ years Frame up restoration started2/15/2010 |

Re: Has anyone gove from 4WD to 2WD?
I'll have to see if I can find the thread, but yes it has been covered. Your best bet would be to locate a 2wd donor to swap all the parts you need. That will give you a 2wd front crossmember, suspension, and steering. That's the bulk of it, along with the crossmember you mentioned.
