engine and trans swap

I have a 77 gmc crewcab 2wd with a rebuilt 454 and automatic trans. I also have a 86 chevy crewcab 4x4 with a 350 and a 4 spd. I am going to put the 454 into the 86, I would like to keep the automatic . I hear that I would have to get a smaller tail shaft to hook it up to the transfer case. Or should i keep the 4 spd. The 86 already has the right steering colum for the swap. I know if I kept the 4spd I would need to buy clutch, flywheel and bell housing. What do you think? Thanks
