VIN # location
My VIN # plate is missing on the drivers side door jam. Is there another place this number can be located.
Thanks

You can check the driver's door.If its original and hasnt been painted or anything it should have blue VIN sticker. Its also listed on the glove box option sheet. It stamped in the frame also.

It should be on the top side of driverside frame rail near the steering gearbox. It's probably covered in years of dirt and grease, so get a wire brush!

There might be one more stamping on the top of a frame rail under the cab .

Ok guys i checked all the above posts with no luck. Here's my problem, i bought this truck 3 years ago since then i've dropped about 5 grand into it. A guy offered me a good price for it, he wanted to make sure vin# on title matched truck, there's the problem i can't find it. What are my options? Or can i look somwhere else for this VIN#.
Thanks

I'm not really sure about this, but is it possible that your truck is on a 73 or newer frame? But i'm sorry i don't know where there VIN's are located either, just a thought.

I found three on my 68...two match and one doesn't. Mine are located on the frame rail by the power steering as shown in the picture. Unfortunatly this one might have been hand stammped into the frame so it would match the door jamb. The other is on the top of the rail, right behind the left front cab mount. hard to see if the cab is not off. This one on mine appears to be original but does not match the door jamb/title.

It is my understanding all Vin numbers were basicly hand stamped . Most of the time they used a hand held jig that they inserted the proper letters and numbers into and then struck the inserts with a "BIG" hammer and other times just did the sequence by eye . Nichboy , there has to be numbers there some where , like JHICKSON6 said sometimes you have to look real hard it could be under some paint . Last edited by Bowed; 02-09-2003 at 10:02 PM. |

It won't be the complete VIN by the gear box either...just a partial.

My VIN number is CE148J129236
The number by the steering box on the top of the frame rail is 8J129236 which matches my name plate. The other number I found on the top of the frame rail under the cab and above the tranny cross member is 8J118884. I also have on the side of the frame upside down below the cab numbers stamped 3935801-460 and on top of it 11-10- -0 I still think the one up front was hand stamped by someone to match the frame and the nameplate( not recently). The one under the cab appears to be original to me. All the numbers are aligned. The cab nameplate also has been reriveted because it does not have the original rivets in it.
