Strange problem

Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search and didn't find what I needed. I was driving my 87 1/2 ton 2wd S/W truck. I turned on my headlights and the low beams didn't work, so I clicked the dimmer switch to high beam and the all four lights came on like they are supposed to for the brights. Then I was pulling a trailer down a steep grade just creeping along and shifted the trans (auto) into low gear. After I got down the grade I shifted the trans into "O" and the shift indicator didn't move, it stayed in first. Then my head light dimmer switch not longer clicks from high to low beam. Could the two be connected somehow? Or is the dimmer switch and indicator related? I was thinking that my low beam lights burned out because one was not coming on all the time, but with the indicator and dimmer not working I'm not sure. Anyone have any good ideas as to what too check?
Thanks

Re: Strange problem

GG, the 2 are not interelated. The shift indicator is stuck in the slide in the cluster. You may be able to free it up from the access panel below the steering colunm. As far as the lights go, check the low beams with an ohm meter to see if the low elements are good. If not replace the lamps. The reason the high\low switch no longer clicks high to low could be adjustment, but more likely the switch itself went south. The terminals on the switch may show signs of overheating which would be kind of a give away the switch is bad. Jim

Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shotJim or Paladin whichever you choose.
