Question 71 Cheyenne power train conversion questions

Hello All,

I am considering what my new power train should be for my 71 long bed 1/2 ton (currently 350 4 barrel and T400). Budget will play a part. My questions are as follows:

What will be required to install a newer big block (454/502)?
Engine mounts? Suspension issues?

Any opinions on going small block instead considering weight and cost?

What tranny should I use, 700r4 or 4L60?

What wiring issues do I need to be concerned with regarding these trannies?

Same with speedo?

I read about the tailshaft conversion which allows for nearly bolt in applications...how about the 4L60?

Will both 4L60 and 700 R4 mount up to either engines?

As always, any help is appreciated.
