GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
Hey everyone I found this truck while looking at an older Cadillac for sale. I took a look at this one and just wondering if it's worth $800. It's a Custom Cab, small back window, high floor hump with a 292 and a hoist. Also judging by the front signals being clear, I am thinking it is a 62' as well. There is a bit of rust on the rockers and the fenders are starting to rust in the usual places. The floors looked fairly solid.
I'm thinking of offering $300, but do you think it would be worth that? I was thinking of having it as a future project, after my 62' comes to an end. Maybe a car hauler with my extra Caddy500/T400? Thanks for the input! http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...dIdZ195001373# My 62 as of now: |

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
probably is a 62, I found a 62, it was the right vin code for a 62 had the clear signals and coil springs, but was titled as a 63....
if that is a 62 it will also have a torsion bar front end.... looks to be a good deal for 800, and a great deal for 300 if it was in my area I would buy it just for that outside mirror! gonna hazard a guess that it is not quite a 3 ton... I would say 1-1 1/2....

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
That was my guess as well. The side emblems say 940 so that would be a 2 ton, would it not?

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
The cab itself may be of a 940. You could have different payload ratings with the same badging, dictated by your axle rating. . According to my Canadian 65-74 medium duty truck parts book the first digit on the V.I.N. # indicates the year. Next letter would be Body style Next # should be 9 indicating GMC. next two digits is the series. next two digits are for the model. next digit would be # of cylinders. The remaining digits are the vehicule #.
Last letter is the GVW Rating. A 6000 or less B 6,001 to10,000 C 10,001 to 14,000 D 14,001 to 16,000 E 16,001 to 19,500 F 19,501 to 26,000 G 26,001 to 33,000 H 33,001 & Over The front Cab supports would have two threaded holes facing the back that the step support bracket would bolt to. I sold my 960 in the fall.

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
I'm jumping on the 62 band wagon too. It has the earlier six cylinder rather than the 292 like the ad states. The engine would have been a 292 if it were a 63 model year truck.

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
I would say it's a 1 ton. It's hard to say on the engine, I can't see enough of it to say for sure. That last pic of an engine is a completely different vehicle.

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
Definitely an earlier engine than 1963. Notice the road draft tube near the distributor and the round profile of the intake manifold rather than square.

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
Screamin' deal on the caddy, nice score!
The 62,that fender looks very workable, the hood looks a little tweaked out, door doesn't look too bad,all the cc stuff appears to be there and if the p side is in the same shape I'd say 800 is a wee bit on the high side I see it's been listed for a week now. start at 300 he'll say 600(you know the routine) 450 would be as high as I would go either way looks like a good addition to your build T

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
Well I gave the guy an offer of $300 and he refused he told me he wants 800 firm. He still believes it's a 3ton. I'll give it a few weeks and then try again.. But for now I'll keep working on my own 62!

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
the 940 is a old school version of a 3500HD , the front wheels are 18 inch 5 lug , and the rear are 10 lug. I would go buy that right now if it wasn't so far away. the engine is probably a 261 maybe a 235 they look exactly the same from outside. I used to have the '72 version of that truck I hope my son doesn't see this

Re: GMC 3Ton Custom Cab..
It is a 1 1/4 ton model made between '60 and '62. In '63 this model was discontinued and replaced with a lighter duty 1 1/2 ton with large fenders and running boards. Canadian GMC 940 same as Chevy C 40. It looks like its easily worth $800 if not more. Remember that 11,000lb rear axle is geared even slower than the 7200lb C 30 1 ton rear end.
