Towing a car trailer??

Anyone tow any car trailers? open or enclosed? pics if ya got em. I've always thought it would be cool to be able to tow my race car with my 67 one day just wondering what it takes to do it. thanks

I tow with my Cummins, no point in towing with the panel when I've got my dually

^ I agree I had a cummins when I had my car trailer. I have heard that towing with a coil spring truck that it can get a little squirrelly especially with a short wheel base truck. In my experience the real trick is to load the trailer right, make sure you don't have alot of tongue weight. I would install a receiver hitch(if you don't have one) and an electric brake box in the truck.

Just and FYI (and please if I am wrong please correct me) but it looks like the "reese" type hitches that fit the 80's truck also fit 67 and up. I just measured the one that i took off my 86' K5 that I sold and it measures perfectly on my 67 frame

i agree with you guys. if i had a newer diesel it would be a no brainer. i wouldnt try to tow with my c/10. but i think it would be cool if someone had a purpose built tow rig in the 67-72 body style. like a dually or a 3/4 ton or something, im just thinkin out loud

I towed with my C10 for about 10 years then bought a 06 F250 new to tow with. Kept it for 3 years and sold it to tow with my C10 again. And yes I tow a car trailer with my car on it and the bed loaded too. And we do tow all over the country. We live in FL and have towed to CA, OH, IN about 4 times, NY, PA, WI, TX and Im sure a few other places.

i bought my 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd for towing (as well as going to car shows). if i wasn't going to use it as a truck i'd have been better off with a corvette (my other favorite chevy model).

the 3/4 ton trucks have some beefier parts, but standard 3/4 ton rear coils are perfect for stock height 1/2 ton trucks used for serious towing (they were an option after all).

as for upgrades..... i will be running big CPP sway bars, poly track bar and trailing arm bushings, (to fix any possible squirrely issues). i will be using the gm brake controller off my dad's 84 burb. i also pulled the 2 barrel and 2 row radiator in favor of a 4 row, q-jet w/ edelbrock intake, and also the 7 blade fan off my dad's old 72 burb that had heavy duty cooling. air box will be the top from the '84 burb (14x5" air cleaner) with an early 70's vette/camaro dual snorkel base. for monitoring, the full gauge cluster has been supplanted with factory tach and vacuum gauge added.

my truck has a manual 3onthetree and no a/c so when i get the 307 swapped for my bad boy 406sbc in the near future it have no cooling issues. also running mobil 1 high mileage oil in the 307 and putting royal purple in the trans and rear end. brakes have been fortified with braided stainless brake hoses and valvoline synthetic dot4+ fluid. also will have a 4.10 rear end by the time i hitch up the family camper.....a 71 holiday trav'ler 23 footer that weighs 3 tons loaded. i also am getting a 15,000 pound rated hitch and have a new set of 3/4 ton HD option rear coil springs waiting for possible future hauls involving bigger trailers like toy hauler campers that get over 10,000 pounds!

I have a 18' steel deck trailer with duel axles and brakes. I tow my wife's car, Honda Accord or my CJ7. My 70 C10 has a 402(rebuilt twice), 700R4(rebuilt once), 12 bolt rear with 3:73's&posi, converted to 5 lug with discs up front, PW, PS,PB, factory AC, tilt, heated factory bucket seats. When we both retire I will probably trade it for a short 67 with a 6 and 3 on the tree.

I used my '70 GMC 2500 with 402 and TH400 to pull my 18' steel deck car hauler all the time. It towed great and got about 10 mpg, with the AC blowing cold, which I thought was pretty fair. Only reason I sold it was because with my son we didn't all fit anymore. Would love to have it back...
