pre 81 crew cab 3+3 long box

hi everyone new to the site about to get myself an old beast. all i know from what i can find on the internet is that this truck is pre 81 before the facelift. its a 3/4 ton with a 350sb 130,000 miles or here in canada 208,000 kms. interior is beautiful and i plan to keep the front and actually store the back away and put in a mild sound system ok ok a wild sounds system but thats later on down the road. i plan on doing a frame off project with a semi-gloss black frame and a 2 tone paint job black on botom red on top. and maybe 20 inch rims all the way a round. 5% limo tint but here is what i have to start with. also is it possible to change the front end to a an 82 front end?? obviously fenders and grill but hood? let me know and what is involved thanks

looks like its a 77 to me! Yeah you can switch the whole front clip over to the other style. you'll need everything from the other front clip hood fenders cowl and hinges.

In my opinion, dont change the front clip. You'll have to remove all the trim and fill in all the holes. They look much better with the 2-tone trim.

Re: pre 81 crew cab 3+3 long box

hmmm Tow Me you have a valid point... i could use the trim as my transition from black to red.... i may replace all the trim with new trim maybe stainless steel if i can find it. one thing i forgot to mention was i was going to replace the motor unfortunately i have a motor already not a chev but will do just fine. i have a 460 that will be going into it built up producing 600+ horses as my daily driver. motor was origanly for my mud truck but hey mud trucks dont need more then what ive got i n mine now... ill also be lowering it maybe 3 up front and 4 out back nothing two wild. thanks for the feedback

Re: pre 81 crew cab 3+3 long box

I am surprised at how nice the interior looks. Looks like a good start.
I passed on a 1 ton 1979 3+3 4x4 a while back and am kicking my self to this day.
Good luck with your project and keep posting pics.

The interior surprises me in comparison to the exterior. Sounds like you will have alot of fun with this one. Welcome to the board too.

Re: pre 81 crew cab 3+3 long box

Door panels are a dead giveaway it is a 73-76. 77+ would have different panels, and 77 only would have the gold accented colored trim.

The 6th digit of the VIN will tell you the year.

Re: pre 81 crew cab 3+3 long box

The VIN should be on a plate riveted to the driver door jamb. I guessed '75 or '76 because of the type of woodgrain finish that seems to be on the door panels. I think '73 and '74 were a little lighter.
