Not sure what your mean by blowing the oil filter.......maybe blowing the seal?

You may have a blockage, and just keep building pressure.....

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE SEAL IN THE FILTER LOOKED LIKE IT WAS BULGING OUT. THOUGHT IT WAS A FAULTY FILTER. SECOND ONE DID THE SAME THING.

Did you use the same brand of filer? Maybe try a different type and see if it does it again.

Are you sure it's the oil filter leaking?
Might be the o-ring seal on the oil cooler adapter if you have a factory cooler. The filter screws into the adapter which is bolted to the block.
Mine started leaking - a lot - dripped right down the oil filter. I thought it was the oil filter at first, but it was the adapter seal.
Real common once you get close to 100K miles.
Just my 2 cents.

This might help, check out http://cpgparts.alliedsignal.com/cpg...ressurized.pdf this is off the FRAM website and it talks about overpressured filters.

My '89 Silverado started leaking from rear main seal, didn't have time to fix it myself so I took it in. The mech. told me the pcv system was clogged and the pressure was what blew the main seal. Could replace the seal, but it or something else would probably give way, that is why I'm shopping for a '69-'72 to buy now.
Don't know if this relates to your problem or not, but sounds possible?
