Tailgate Question??

I have looked for what I feel is everywhere for the cover/trim thing that goes on the tailgate. Mine is dented and I am wanting to replace it but I can't find it anywhere. It seems to be discontinued I was wondering if anyone has replaced it and if so where did they get it? Thanks

^^^ Yep, they are pricey, but they do have them. Around $300 or so IIRC?

Re: Tailgate Question??

I couldn't find it either this morning. But the more I think about it, I think the one that LMC does carry is for a Blazer, and is the one that is not notched for the tailgate handle.

Thanks for the props! If you have any questions on it, send me a PM!

Re: Tailgate Question??

You can relocate the handle, and it looks awesome when it's done. But cost wise you'd be better off just buying the new trim band, if that's what you're thinking. If cost is not the issue, then yes, smooth that puppy out!

I've been tinkering with the idea of a remote release, like the new SUV's and such have auto hatches, have a tail gate that releases and drops at the push of a button. Just not sure I can get a strong enough actuator really. Would also have to put a tail gate assist spring in place like the newer trucks have, but that would be the easy part I reckon. Without the assist spring on the hinge, it'd drop like a rock be rather loud.

I didn't see a way to search that site without a part #; am I missing something?
Also, is that for a truck band or a Blazer band. I thought the Blazer bands were about $200 cheaper than the truck bands when LMC offered them. Like $250 vs. $450.
Are a Blazer and Suburban the same piece?

Yes as the pictures posted show.
BUT, I believe there is a fitment issue which cause the panel to not mount as flush as people would like. Not sure if that can't be "massaged" out, or its not as big of a deal as I take it to be? It might have to due with using the mounting brackets for a truck with the Blazer band... maybe.
I plan on doing just that, but have an idea for a custom made panel. I work for the eng. dept of a company with a full fab shop; if I can draw it, we can make it!

I thought the handle relocator kits were fairly inexpensive, like under $100. And it was a fairly straight-forward mod to do.
I have not done this, but I remember looking into it about a year or so ago

Re: Tailgate Question??

It's much cheaper to use a new Blazer band and relocate the handle than it is to just buy a new truck band. New truck band is $417.45. New Blazer band is $149.95, handle relocate kit is $129.95. Relocate kit can probably even be had for less $$.

The $417 part is the truck band. LMC sells the Blazer band for $150. Don't know on the Burb part.

It's a very minor issue, and can be fixed very easily. Lower outer corners IIRC.

I went back and looked. At the top there is a row of tabs. Second from the right is "catalog".

Re: Tailgate Question??

kevinr1970, I was counting parts, labor, paint.... added up it would be more costly. If he does it all himself, then of course it might be cheaper, depending on paint and materials used. But if he pays to have it done, would be more I imagine.

I was under the impression from some of those that had done this that the outer handle opening did not need to be shaved, as the Blazer panel covers it completely.

Re: Tailgate Question??

I remembered a thread from a while back discussing this very subject. Finally found it, some good stuff in here, including the mod needed to make the Blazer band fit good.

Re: Tailgate Question??

Good point, we've always put a patch panel in and left the trim off, not sure for 100%. But I bet you're right. Now where is the facepalm icon at....
