ls6 PCV conversion
I have an 06 silverado, 5.3, 46k, and has recently developed an oil consumption problem that i have actually read a lot about oline. my truck goes through approx. 1 qt of mobil1 every 1500 miles. no smoking or power loss has been noticed. the more research i do on this it seems to be a pcv problem. Many others with the same problem have fixed it by converting their motor to the ls6 valley cover. it doesn't look like a very difficult upgrade however, was just wondering if anyone on here done this and had good results? i bought my truck before the 5yr. 100k warranty that gm now has so since mine ran out at 36k, Im SOL as far as that goes. thanks in advance

Re: ls6 PCV conversion
just pulled off my throttle body and the inside of my intake was coated with a thin film of oil. I think I'm going to go for the conversion either this weekend or next week. I'll keep you updated

Re: ls6 PCV conversion
do you have any updates on this? I have an 03 Suburban and it seems like mine is doing the same thing. No smoke, no leaks.... like it is just vanishing. Has anyone else heard of this?

Re: ls6 PCV conversion
I too have a oil consumption problem with my '04 GMC Sierra. Oil light came on prior to last oil change (bout 4000 miles) and I'm already down about a quart on this oil change (1500 miles). I was shocked to find zero oil on the dipstick!! Sure seems weird for these motors. Mine has 95K. My oil is 5w30 and a GMC dealer installed filter (don't know what kind). I don't tow but I do drive 80 MPH on the freeways.

Re: ls6 PCV conversion
Check your PCV first, if it is the old rattle style, they are known for consuming oil. Upgrade to the newer style with no rattle, just a small orifice in the bottom. My mom's 02 Tahoe was consuming about 1.5qts per oil change, now it's down to less than half a qt with the new style.
My 01 never had consumption issues, pulled the PCV valve out, sure enough it was the newer version, I guess swapped in by the previous owner or the dealership.

Re: ls6 PCV conversion
Between me and my dad we 4 5.3 trucks and they all do it my and all my buddys trucks. But seems more like 1qt ever 3000 its just a 5.3 thing not realy hurting anything I wouldnt even worry about it becouse the 2000
z/71 I have with 250,000 has done it sense I owned it and it dont miss a lick. And after 250,000 its still only 1qt ever 3000 or so. |
