parking brake light

so recently my parking brake light has come on and decided to stay on. if i push my normal brake pedal down at about 3/4 of the travel the light will shut off and just a little past that come back on. thinking it was the parking brake switch i unplugged it, the light went away at first, but now its back on and there isnt any way the wire for the switch is grounding on anything, i taped the end.

Re: parking brake light

Maybe it is telling you that there is a problem with your brakes, proportioning valve, or master cylinder? I'm not sure, but I think the "brake" light is used for more than just the parking brake.

Re: parking brake light

fluid is ok. brake pedal has some free play, and it seems like i loose my power brakes alot. the right side rotor is kinda glazed so it pulls to the right under a hard stop.

Re: parking brake light

The light is telling you that there's a problem that needs to be fixed. On my '78, everytime the light has gone on, it has been due to a faulty master cylinder.

Re: parking brake light

Look at your prop-valve, You'll see another electrical connector there as well. That's your brake pressure sensor switch. If you've got little to no brake pressure, it'll cause your brake light to come on. I have seen very few prop valves fail, but have seen alot of M/C's go belly up. as well as power brake boosters.
My moneys on the Master Cylinder.
Replace it as well as your front brake pads & rotors (maybe resurface them if possible) and also replace your front caliper hardware. Be sure to lube up the caliper guides/slides well to help keep them from hanging up on you. I'm betting that's what was causing your truck to pull to that side initially.
