disaster averted
the other night i did a 'normal' inspection of my truck, cause i havent drove it in awhile...i poped the hood, checked the fluids, made sure battery was charged, etcccc....
when i had the hood opened, i noticed the pass side hood hinge rivet was worn down, almost to the point that one of the pivot points was about to fail (no doubt, one or two more times opening/closeing the hood)..now, should it of failed, if my calculations are correct, the hood spring would of shot out at me ,at mock 1, upon opening the hood, striking me in the face (probley the forehead, or eye), and causing me to let go of the hood...when i would of let go of the hood, it woulda fell all willy-wanka style (casue the hood hinge pivot points are messed up) damaging the fender, cowl, and hood...for sure scratching the paint too, and thats no bueno.... so, i had to take a spare hood hinge assy. blast all the rust off, paint it, and install it....im glad this disaster was averted... sidenote: im still amazed at how well a 40+ yr old hinge works, with a shot of WD-40...not only on this truck, but thats been my experiance with all the 67-72 trucks ive worked on...here are a few more random pics too Last edited by 68 short step; 05-02-2010 at 01:05 AM. |
