Hood latch assembly problem
Ok, here we go again. The idiot that I bought my newest project from (80 Chevy Short Fleet) replaced the original cab with an older one. The original cab had an inside hood latch release cable and the new one does not. Unfortunately, somewhere along the swap, Jimbob mixed up the hood and the rad support such that I now have a hood with a pin (which should have the external release) and my rad support has the original cable style latch release. Obviously the two don't jive and I'm not sure if I can just replace the plate on the hood so that it matches the cable latch....if that makes sense to any of you. I see that LMC offers the 2 different latches but I don't see the 2 different hood plates....just the one that I already have. If I was just to buy the external latch it appears to be rectangular but the hole in my support is kind of like a pentagon.
Does anyone have a suggestion, or swapped one of these? Cheers in advance |

Re: Hood latch assembly problem
Hi Nukes16,
Yes, I think you can simply replace the plate on the hood with the style that'll work with the rest of the cable style latch components on your truck. But it might depend on the year of hood you have. The inside cable release option didn't become available until 77 (I think). I'm not sure if the 73-76 hoods will accept the cable release style latch plate or not. On the other hand, if you go with the outside hood latch, you'll have to change out that panel that bolts to the upper part of the radiator support. As you noticed, the openings in that panel are different for the two latch styles. |
