Chassis coating
What are you guys using and hows it holding up? Looking for something close to a factory semi gloss finish but need something durable. Will get driven alot.

i used nason "chassis black" on my 69 camaro. it is a little glossy for me though. looks good and layed down easy.

I am going to use catalyzed basecoat. Should hold up better than Krylon, and have a semi gloss look to it.

I used a product called chassis saver....
http://www.magnetpaints.com/underbody.asp I paid $35 or so for 1 quart of it and brushed it on myself, I think it came out really well. 1 quart did 2 coats on a regular cab shortbed two wheel drive frame. I used the antique/satin black. If you want I can take pics of the frame, it's still a bare frame in storage as I have put the project on hold for a while. I also got a little spot on a pair of jeans that is still there from a year ago from the stuff.

What seems to have held up the best for me was SPI epoxy primer, it may be to flat for you though. I did different sections of my frame in different stuff. Hammerite on one section, needs to redone. Rustoleum on another section, but it's starting to show age. The SPI I used on the inner fenders and spring hangers and it seem to be holding up well.
I used Valspar "tractor" paint on the bed, but the jury is still out on it. (it's only been one winter) I did mine about 2 years ago and I drive in the snow, slush.

I used the por-15 chassis coat in the Satin Black for a factory look. I did the Marine Clean and Metal Ready process prior to applying two coats. I still have to do under the cab and the front part of the frame.

Yo! All my 40 and 35+ year old frames do just great kept clean with a bit of oil vapor and a light coat of dirt from frequent use! None of them need to be redone, and they aren't beautiful, but they're rust free!
Sorry, just had to be foolish and throw that one out to y'all. None of mine are for show, but they'll sure "road",...even the '42 JD B. Todd.

I did mine with POR15 and then overcoated with gloss black enamel. It's still doing well after about 2 years. ALL the sheetmetal underneath and inside ALL the panels got bedliner spray and a 4" strip along the bottom edges all the way round got it too. I should have done the frame with bedliner too but never even thought to. Jim

1984 K20 350M engine with 465,000 miles. Well, it's finally done!! Almost 2 years of work, but it was really worth the effort. Little stuff left to do is mount winch, wet sand & buff out and build belly pan\running boards. Body work takes lots and LOTS of beer!!!! God, Guts and Guns made America and God, Guts and Guns will preserve it! The worst thing you could do is get into my sights, but that don't matter, you'll never know it, cause you'll never hear the shot  Jim or Paladin whichever you choose.

I stripped it down to bare metal and used some self etching primer (2 coats) and some Rustoleum Satin Black (2 coats). Looks pretty good so far.

I've used Eastwood Chassis Black over their Rust Encapsulator. Goes on pretty easy and has held up for about 6 years so far without a problem.

I have my frame sand blasted and semi glass powder coated. Very tuff on and off road!
