Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

What trans is in your truck now? If it is a TH350, I would recommend a 200r4. It will be a bolt for bolt swap. No cutting the driveshaft ETC. If not then a 700 is the way to go. Search the local salvage yards, and find a 700 with a cable driven speedo. Find a small trans shop with a great reputation, and tell them what you want. If you want them to install it or you want to install it. Here is what you need:
700r4 trans and converter
linkage to connect the TV cable to the carb
wiring to the torque converter, and the correct connector to the trans
4 pin brake light switch

YOU WILL LOVE WHEN DONE

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

TCI has a wiring kit. You can also find it at Summit. The 4 pin brake switch is to unlock the converter when you apply the brakes. Also try Bow Tie Overdrives.

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

well Im glad I could make you laugh! haha

the truck originally had a straight 6 and three on the tree. So a stock rebuilt 700 should take 500hp is what it sounds like.

I was looking on bowtie overdrive and they have some nice looking stuff but it looks like you pay for it! has anyone bought from them????

I have a 4.3L V-6 with a 700 on it that came out of an S-10 but wasnt sure if it was the same tranny I am looking for, the s-10 was a 91 or so????

I started looking at bowtie a while ago and they seem to be legit but at the same time my knowledge on trannys is very limited to say the least. 1300 for a tranny sounds like a chunk of money but I dont want to mess with it in the future!

thanks for the input!

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

Is there a special 700 that I need to get??

I know that there are some small differences from the older 700's to the newer ones.

What is a K case? it seems like that is a popular case????

are the newer 700's computer controlled, and does that mean I need the older style?

is there a better 700 to buy as far as what year was a better or different one?

Thanks

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

I finally bought a trans and thought it worked out pretty good!!!!!

700r4 "K" case full rebuild (not sure exactly what that means)- corvette servo- shift kit- 2500 stall converter- kick down cable... $980.00 with tax

Built to handle 600hp??? is what he told me.he is a buddy of my friend that races NHRA so I kinda have some faith in him.......

He said he made the trans a hydraulic lock up so I don't have to have a wire from my brake switch....

So what do you think?

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

I have a 700R4 behind a big block, had it for years now. I no one has ever told you, do not put a 700R4 in your vehicle. It was never intended to b behind an engine with a carb on it for many reasons!!! The drop in rpm's is small, first gear is a monster but I advise against it. If u still want a 700R4 after this, I will sell u mine. :}

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

Since ditching the idea of swapping over to a manual tranny, I will be looking to buy one from these guys.

http://www.gearstar.net/transmission....php?catunid=6

Pretty good deal: tranny, stall, cooler, fluid and no core required on most.

Re: where to buy a 700r tranny?

There are many good trany shops out there. I have to say that Mark bowler, of Bowler transmissions is the smartest trans guy I've ever met. If you need a lock-up kit, and or a TV cable set up, he has the best stuff out there
