'70 Makes noise when I turn left?

Ok I need help to figure out why my '70 c10 makes a noise when I make a left turn. It sounds like the wheel rubs the wheel well, but it doesn't! I'm thinking it may be the steering? It only makes a noise when turning left, when I make right hand turns its perfect with no noises. Anybody think they know what the problem is? - Thanks!

Have you checked your power steering? Make sure that it is full.

Is it lowered with drop spindles? If so check the inside of your wheels and make sure your balancing weights are still there. You may need to do a little work on your lower control arms.

Have you checked your wheel bearings to make sure they are adjusted properly

Re: '70 Makes noise when I turn left?

I had the same noise on my 68 GMC. I read in the manual that if the bearings are worn, when you turn to the side that is worn, they load up and make noise. I changed them out and all the noise stopped. Good luck!

Check your right side shock, my '69 started doing that and I found my right side shock was bad and had kinda cocked sideways a little but I have a 4"/3" drop with springs only. I replaced all the shocks with drop shocks and it cured my problem.

Re: '70 Makes noise when I turn left?

When I first bought my truck it was making a rubbing noise when I turned left. It drove me crazing trying to figure it out. It turned out that my fan shroud was over a little too far to the right, causing the fan to hit the left side when making a turn. Look at your shroud for signs of rubbing. There was very little room for adjustment left to right but it moved enough.

Re: '70 Makes noise when I turn left?

Thanks to everyone for thier input! I am going to see if they are the wheel bearings, to see if they are worn or just need proper adjusting. Hopefully thats what it is! Thanks again for all the help!

Re: '70 Makes noise when I turn left?

I had the same problem 20 years ago. The mechanic said it was the fat driver putting all the pressure on the left side. It ended up being a tie rod or steering arm rubbing on the tire.

Re: '70 Makes noise when I turn left?

Anybody have a service manual for a '70 pick up? For the last 2 months I've been trying to find mine but no luck! I think I just need to buy another one!
