Need Help with Frame Straitening - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Working on 70 2WD SWB. Alignment shop couldn't align it stating the frame is bent. Passenger side wheel sits back in the wheel well (about 2") further than it should and it drives me nuts.

Can anyone out there offer suggestions, pointers, tips or help on how to get this corrected without having to drop a fist full of cash at a frame shop!?!?!?!?!?!?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You know it is the frame and not a control arm that is bent? Have you crawled underneath to see if you can tell what is bent and where? If it is your frame then I would guess it will be a fistfull of cash to fix. If your wheel is sitting back that far you should be able to see the damage on the frame or the crossmembers...

I had my frame straightened when I first bought my truck. It was $250 well spent.

I hit a stump in my 2wd one time and it pushed the lower a arm back a couple inches. I loosened the 2 u bolts that hold the a arm in place and hammered it foreward. Fixed!!
My k-5 blazer had a bent frame when i got it. I chained it between 3 trees and come-a-longed it out. Fixed!!

you may want to try this method of checking your frame.on the opposite side or the good side select measuring points from the frame to the end of the control arms.measure both upper and lower control arms in the exact same locations.then measure the other side,compare measurements.this will tell you where the problem is,whether it's in your suspension or the frame itself.if you can try to collapse the coil spring on the bad side to relieve tension on the suspension.see if you can (wiggle) the wheel front to rear.this way you can see any extreme wear on the suspension components.other than obvious damage to your frame,you will have to take measurements to see if your frame has went "diamond".a good body man can help you out there.good luck!

I am talking to a shop in the Seattle area about straightening these rails. Hey, it's a SWB 4X4 and I have the title & vin...if I can just get these things right...
