new member... intro

Hi all, great site here, every time I searched for 60-66 info it brought me here. Figured I may as well register instead of being a perpetual lurker.

Anyways, I picked up my '65 several months ago on a trade for a fox body Mustang I had. 60-66 and 67-72 Chevy trucks have always been a favorite, I learned how to drive a stick shift on my dad's old '62 way back when. The truck didn't run when I got it so I put a new carb, HEI (still had points) and the 3 on the tree was wasted (linkage) so I converted it to floor shift. It's pretty clean for a 45 year old vehicle and gets far more compliments than my SRT10 haha

She has a 327/3spd manual, here's some crappy blackberry pics I took a few months back:

this one is from last weekend parked next to my best friend's clean old Ford:

I would like to "de-stinkbug" it by lowering it or at least leveling it. I would love to convert to front disc brakes eventually, but would settle for power assist and a two reservoir master cylinder for starters. I want to add some 6 lug rally wheels and swap out the 3 speed for a muncie 4 speed. I killed the rear-end on the way to work on Tuesday so I'm looking for a drum to drum rear end for it to simplify the swap. The only fluid level I didn't check after acquiring it was the rear-diff. Doh! The interior is in great shape for its age so I'll probably leave it alone. That's about it for now, great site!

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking truck. I frequent all the 60-66 sites on the web, and time will show this one offers the most, and provides a lot of friendly support.

Welcome from north Idaho to the forums, be careful parking that close to a Ferd that can cause rust spots. Your truck looks nice & straight to start with that makes things allot easier with a resto. Enjoy....Vernski

Re: new member... intro

Thanks everyone!

My truck has more rust than the ford, btw. They are both AZ originals but mine has rust in the doors, and fenders like all these trucks do around here. At least the floors are solid!! My dad's old '62 came from the rust belt and it was interesting seeing the road beneath us. haha I can repair the rust on mine with just the little patch panels they sell at LMC. Someone bondo'd over the rust and painted it so it isn't terribly evident now and I'm in no hurry to do anything aesthetic to it. I want to work all the bugs out from being neglected for many years, upgrade the brakes, then I may start worrying about the rust, bodywork, and paint. Some of my favorite trucks that I've seen on here have that nice patina so I may just leave it

Looks like I'm gonna have to drive to Show Low this weekend to pick up a couple rear-ends. One has a 3.40 ratio and the other has a 4.10. They are complete and only 100 dollars for both. It will probably cost me another 100 in gas since my running truck gets 10mpg at best. I may be able to sell one to recoup my losses.

Thanks! I can't believe someone not from Casa Grande or Arizona City even knows where it is. haha Most people even in Phoenix and Tucson have never heard of it. I grew up in Casa Grande, I probably know your family around these parts unless they just moved here recently.

Nice pic w/your buddies old truck! Nothing wrong w/old Fords just because they're not as pleasing to the eye as old Chevys .

By the way, I had heard of Arizona City, but never knew where it was, until reading that's where you are, and looked it up on Google maps.
