cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Can some one give me detailed info/dimensions on wheel positioning in reference to center line of truck compared to standard dropped spindles.
Also looking to see what backspacing people are running with on bagged trucks with stock crossmember and PB arms. Thanks

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
They pull the wheels in .75 inches of track width
I am using a backspace 5.25" with the porterbuilt DM setup. |

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Thanks GVissle,
Where does the 1.125" come from indicated on CPP site? Is that total and not per side? Anybody know?

We had discussed building some custom long travel a arms for my truck to compensate for the reduced track width but he said it actually turned out alot better for steering clearance with the added room. I am not sure where the reduced track width came from in the spindle, I was never able to figure that out myself. |

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
I'm running 20x8.5's with a 5.5" BS running standard drop spindles without any issues.
I would assume the 1.125 is an overall measurement, with .0562" per side gained. Pulled from CPP website: Looking for a spindle and brake kit for your lowered truck with big tires and wheels? We have it! Introducing CPP's new modular 2" drop spindle and drop spindle wheel kits for 1960-87 Chevy pickups. Our exclusive new design helps solves tire to fender interference commonly found with lowered trucks. Our new modular spindle and bracket works with factory 1971-87 C10 brake components, or for a HIGH performance option, combine our spindle with the NEW CPP 13" Rotor Twin 52mm Piston Brake Kit. The ALL NEW CPP Modular Spindle offers many benefits available for the first time, installs easy without modifications, works with factory ball joints and tie rod ends, lowers your truck a full 2", offers adjustable steering stops, provides 1-1/8" more fender to tire clearance, allows use with standard factory brakes and PERFORMANCE aftermarket "BIG" Brake Kits. You can count on CPP for impressive quality, performance and price. 12" complete front brake kits include: spindles, 12" rotors, loaded calipers, caliper mount brackets, bearings, seals, spindle nuts, banjo bolts, rubber brake hoses and a booster, master cylinder & prop valve assembly. 13" complete kits include: spindles, 13" rotors, aluminum hubs, loaded calipers, caliper mount brackets, bearings, seals, spindle nuts, banjo bolts, rubber brake hoses and a booster, master cylinder and prop valve assembly. Note: Kits will fit 1967-70 trucks when modifying the firewall. Also note, the 12" kits come standard with plain rotors.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Thanks for all the info,
I will call CPP tomorrow to confirm as it would be nice to have exact dimension info that we could all use as a reference.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
What I heard is the Modular spindle will move the wheels out 1/4" per side where most other spindles will move the wheels out 3/4" per side. Don't take my word for it though.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
well,
I received my CPP modules spindles and Jeff confirmed that it moves them in .75" each side. My current drop spindles for the 1" rotors have a different sized castle nut & washer so I will have to hunt some down. ( It is always the small things that take the time)

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Resurrection....
I'm still getting mixed information on the topic. Through emails, Justin tells me that the: CP4S1 1960-62, 2-1/2" drop, set $239.00 doesn't move the wheels out at all. From their site: (I've underlined and bolded the portion regarding offset) Make your truck disc brake compatible with a set of our disc brake spindles. These are the same spindles sold in our OEM kits and upgrade kits. Cast from the highest quality Ductile Iron with 4140 Chrom-moly CNC machined pins. Accepts factory ball joints and tie rod ends. Designed to use 1971-87 1-1/4” rotors, calipers and bearings. New design is at original offset! But then if you go to their site and look at the Modular type: CP30106-1 1960-62 Modular™ Drop Spindles Only, pair $299.00 Modular™ Drop Spindle Wheel Kits Looking for a spindle and brake kit for your lowered truck with big tires and wheels? We have it! Introducing CPP's new modular 2" drop spindle and drop spindle wheel kits for 1960-87 Chevy pickups. Our exclusive new design helps solves tire to fender interference commonly found with lowered trucks. You can count on CPP for impressive quality, performance and price. Drop spindles also sold separately. What is the difference? Why is Modular for $60 more?

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
There are 2 different Modualr spindles now from CPP.
The original had a "bolt on" caliper bracket, (depending on which diameter rotors you run). This bracket is about $80 on top of the $299. The newest version is made like all the other drop spindles with the caliper bracket cast into the spindle. Check here for better pricing,... $269 and $225. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=504480

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Unless you plan to run 13" big brakes,... there is now no need to spend the extra $60.
Just buy the "Old School" version for $225 from Porterbuilt Direct.

Thanks
That's what I was reading also. And that's what Justin at CPP told me, so I guess I should just order them and see for myself.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
I think I'm getting down to the bottom of the 'move wheels in or out confusion.
Cpp says none of their spindles move the wheels out from stock. Others on these forums have said they do move the wheels out, and if you don't want your wheels to move out, you need to buy modular. From my emails to Justin, he says he just had this conversation again with the owner and said that none of their spindles move the wheels out. So I did some more searching today, and I found a few posts from others who've bought the modular spindles, that they do indeed bring the wheels in. Quote:

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles

"They bring the wheels in",... compared to what? Stock drum spindles, stock disc brake spindles, or drop disc brake spindles? I have NEVER gotten a firm answer to this from CPP. Here's what I see: 1) drum brake spindles have the narrowest track width. (still wider than the 60-69 narrow rearends). 2) disc brake spindles are 3/4" (per side) wider than drum brake spindles. 3) DROP spindles are about 1/2" wider (per side) than the stock height disc brake spindle. (this is to allow more clearance at the lower balljoint) So,... what is CPP's claim? Their MODULAR drop spindles are the same as what? There are 2 answers: 1) drum brake spindles? 2) stock height disc brake spindles? No one at CPP will answer this question. I challenge them now to produce track width numbers compared to stock. Sure they are narrower than most "old school" C10 drop spindles,... but all the info gets confused when you talk 60-70 drum brake spindles, 71-72 disc brake spindles, or 73-87 disc brake spindles.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
Get CPP to answer this,... and you will make my day.
The only tech article I have seen from CPP is this one: http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/09...l/viewall.html The article shows them removing the stock disc brake spindle. (Is it a drop spindle since the truck was so low to start with? I don't know) The second pic shows the first design Modular spindle from CPP. It also shows the addition bracket that is required to run the stock style D52 brake caliper with the stock diameter rotor. This bracket is sold at an additional cost. (CPP's second design Modular spindle eliminates the need for this bracket for stock rotors) So,... it appears the CPP Modular spindle narrows the track width of a stock disc brake front end,... BUT is it the same as a drum brake front end? I don't think so. Get CPP to answer that.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
The earlier article for this Classic Trucks Magazine white '72 truck project,... show them installing a McGaughy's lowering kit.
http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/07...kit/index.html This makes me believe that CPP's Modular drop spindles are just narrower than "other brands of drop spindles" that are currently manufactured. (I believe the spindles removed in the previous post were these McGaughy's drop spindles) So,... 1) They are not narrower than the stock standard height disc brake spindle. 71-72 or 73-87. 2) Are they narrower than the stock 60-70 drum brake spindle? If you want the narrowest track width with a stock crossmember AND drop spindles on your 60-87 C10,... then go with CPP Modular spindles. But don't say they don't widen the track width over stock height drum or disc brake spindles. If anyone from CPP wants to answer,... that will be great. But they've never answered this question from me before.

Re: cpp modular 2" drop spindles
This was posted by board vendor Scottshotrods,... in this thread:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=485760&page=3 To add to the cpp spindal deal I spoke to Arron at Cpp this morning and he again confirmed with me the old school new school spindal will narrow the track 1.If your truck has drum brakes now the track will be narrowed up to 1/4 inch per side 2.If your truck has disc brakes your track will be narrowed up to 1 inch per side I don't know anyone that has confirmed this.

How simple it would be for them to just set them both on a bench a measure which one is taller. So simple and would solve all the calls, emails, and possible returns.
