Smoothing/Mirroring Firewall ?

Hey Guys,
Working on my firewall and want to plug the 'blower hole' on the firewall and 'mirror' left hand side contour, over to right hand side (kind of like the red line below). Is this panel normally just 'cosmetic', I mean looks good from the front, but has a gap between firewall/cowl area?? Or do you some how weld in a 'bridging' piece to extend the channel where the stock wiring harness runs? (Want it to look like the bottom photo).
Any thoughts on this appreciated.

I don't think you need to worry about making it structurally stronger, if that's what you're asking. But I would make it kinda look like the rest of the firewall, with either a cover over the wiring gutter, or have the gutter extend behind the filler piece you add.

Not structural...It will be fine without any more bracing behind it. I didnt put anything behind mine.

Re: Smoothing/Mirroring Firewall ?

Thanks Guys,
No, wasn't worried about making it structural. Just wanted it to look 'right' without creating hours of work. Just after some good workable ideas.

Not a real good angle shot but I mirrored mine and it is not much extra work. I use tracing paper for starting my templates.

Re: Smoothing/Mirroring Firewall ?

This is what I ended up doing with mine (when it was still mine). It makes for a much cleaner look if you go ahead and cap the top. It really wasn't all that difficult and turned our pretty well. Here is a link to how it turned out after the new owner painted it.
