Here's an earlier thread with a lot of opinions, and post # 8 refers to an even earlier opinion poll.

Both of my cabs have been small windowed. The one advantage I have been told is the back of your neck is out of the sun mostly.

Big back window, all the way IMHO. I think it looks weird to have the molded outline on the back of the cab where the glass should be, and a teeny window trying to fill such a large empty space. Once you have a big window you'll never wish it was small.

This is the reason I am considering keeping the small back window. I have owned a few standard cab trucks over the years, and have had MANY neck sunburns from long drives (yes even with sunscreen). I can see; however, that vision from the cab could be greatly impaired, and that makes me nervous these days. I dunno for sure yet.

Re: big back window or small

Years ago I had an 83 fleetside and I hated being sun roasted by the big back window. I bought a roll of black out limousine film, and cut a small window hole in it using my 60 GMC small back window as a template. It looked stupid but worked great. The smaller opening sure made driving the truck more enjoyable for me.

I have had them both and still prefer small window every time. I like sitting in the shade.

I now have a BBW, but like the small window.
This just happened to be the nicest cab I could find.

If I wanted a BBW i'd buy a new truck.

Re: big back window or small

I've had a 60 Chev, 62 Chev, 63 Chev, 64 Chev, 65 GMC, 66 GMC and a second 66 GMC (the last one was a daily driver all year round) all of which were SMALL window trucks. I think the small window is another thing that sets these trucks apart from newer trucks and I have never been a fan of trying to make an old truck look newer then it is. I like the look and the privacy without having to tint the window. (I never liked window tint)

Re: big back window or small

I have the small window in mine that I have had for 26 years. I still see the viablity advantage of the big window.

Make mine small if you don't mind.

Re: big back window or small

I like the look of a big window, but prefer to drive a small window. It's cozy, and I'm pretty fair skinned and I've gotten zapped before when I take my '73 on a long trip.

Got to agree. The small window keeps the "old truck" look. But i could dig both. I think the big window looks good on trucks that are as low as they can go.

IMHO... the small back window is a big part of the character of these older trucks.

Plus there is something sneaky and sinister about it.

Re: big back window or small

Small back window cause I have the rare GM factory slider. Seen lot's of BBW , very few factory sliders.
You could get a BBW slider or SBW installed by the dealer from Barber Glass according to the 1963 Chevrolet Silver Book.
Original 2 pane slider from GM
