Rear diff clunk, opinions?

I have a distinct clunk while moving at a snails pace and while in reverse in my rear diff. the truck is an 86' k10 shortbed with a 10 bolt in the rear. i know those arent known for their strength so what are my options? There is a 77 12 bolt out of a k5 on CL near me would this be a better option? I would go with 3/4 ton running gear however i just bought a set of 6 lug rally's and refurbished them so i would like to use them so 8 lugs are out.
