Will a 67 c20 lwb fit on 79 4x4 lwb frame

I was wondering if anyone knows if a 67 c20 lwb will fit on a 79 4x4 lwb frame. I have a chance to pick up a 79 4x4 lwb cheap. I would like to transfer over my 67 c20 lwb body to that frame. Any thoughts !

It will work, but it's going to take some fabrication. Cab mounts will need to be reworked and the wheelbase I believe, is off just a bit, so you will probably need to cut the frame down. Trevor

Re: Will a 67 c20 lwb fit on 79 4x4 lwb frame

I'm not sure of the wheel base, but I have had both trucks & I know for a fact the rear cab mounts are out side the frame rails on 68-72 and the 73-87 is on the inside. I have cut spring purches off & moved them & modified several frames to work for my off roading trucks. It can be done & it wouldn't be too hard to do. I think the frame rails are the same distance appart. My uncle used one of my rear axels out of my 80s trucks in his 72, & I doubt that would of worked if the frames were different width. I also know a guy who put a 79 4x4 chassis under his 48 chevy truck. I would go for it!!

Re: Will a 67 c20 lwb fit on 79 4x4 lwb frame

The wheelbase on the 79 is longer. I'm not sure exactly how much but i'd guess somewhere around 3". My cousin put his 72 GMC on a 76 3/4 ton 4x4 frame with a 12v cummins. He cut the 72 cab mounts off his old frame and welded them to the 76 frame. He didn't shorten the frame at all and it shows. There is about a 2" gap between the cab and bed as well as the rear wheels are not centered in the wheel wells. It doesn't look bad and didn't take him very long to do, but i imagine it would involve a lot of work.

127 inch wheel base verses 131 inch wheel base.
You'll need to relocate the rear axle, possibly hack a few inches off the tail end of the frame, some reworking of cab mounts, and core support mounts, and also a custom bodu lift. The rear of the frame is much higher on a 73 - 87, so you'll need to jack the cab up to match.
