Dash / Gauge Options - Q
Hey there. Have a 81 C10 with a hacked up gauge install.
Someone put aftermarket gauges on the left side. Has stock large speedo and fuel. On left they cut openings in the original cluster to squeeze in Temp/Oil/Amp I wanna replace all the gauges. I want: large tach, speedo, Small Temp/Oil/Amps/Fuel Are there aftermarket dash panels for these that do a good job of accepting aftermarket gauges???? Thanx for any recommendations |

Re: Dash / Gauge Options - Q
Is the dash panel from them? Or is that an original with an overlay?
I'm perusing their site but not finding anything. Maybe I should just mount em in the original dash plastics.... |

Re: Dash / Gauge Options - Q
Holy SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Those Classic dashes are spendy.
I mean, I know theyre new, but holy crap. Anyway, my plastic is good. I think I'll either mount aftermarkets in the openings, or install all stock gauges. My dash is the 100MPH and Large Fuel. I want to convert it to Large Speed, Large Tach, small temp/oil/volt/fuel All I need is a large factory tack and a small fuel. Of course I'll have to run some wiring independant of the 'printed' 'ribbon' in back, but that's easy Problem is gonna be finding a factory tach and small fuel that work. Not much in bone yards around me, I might have to look in the rural burbs Not sure what to do yet. Anyone in MN Metro got large tach and small fuel? DID THEY MAKE A FACTORY TACH ABOVE 5000 RPM ?????? |

There is a thread on here about a Camaro tach install that covers the installation pretty well. The Camaro tach goes to 7,000 rpm and is the right size to fit into the truck gauge cluster. The font is pretty close too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=camaro+tach Hope this helps.

Re: Dash / Gauge Options - Q
You can get largely what you want (are you SURE you want an ammeter?) with a factory cluster and gauges if you find the right parts. My old Sub's got a speedo/tach and then fuel/volt/oil press/temp on the left.
The biggest problem I have with the aftermarket, etc. stuff is that if you put it in a flat panel it ends up angled down. I've had a panel like that in another vehicle and didn't like it much. Need to find some angled mounting rings/cups to point the gauges in the right direction. |
