Truck too low to use Engine Hoist??

I tried to drop the engine in my frame and my engine hoist would not go under the front a-arms...

Called Tx_Firefighter and he told me to use some wood under the front wheels to elevate it enough...

Here is my question...if I put a two by 10 onder the front wheels I can get the hoist under the a-arms with about 1/4 of an inch gap...if I drop the engine in it will this force the a-arms down where that gap is gone? Will the a-arms be on the engine hoist arms?

Should I use 2 - 2X10 stack on each other? Or is one 2x10 enough?

This is a bare frame without the cab, bed, etc. on it...would the 2 boards make it angle too much and make getting the engine lined up harder?

The tires are all that can compress that will drop the a-arms more. You can inflate your tires extra to combat that. If it does compress it too much you could always use a floor jack to raise the frame more. Although without the sheet metal on the frame an extra board won't make it any harder to work on.

Yep, use what you need to do the job, that's what I have to do on one of mine. You shouldn't have an issue using the 2x10's stacked up.

Is it possible to install the engine from the side of the truck since it is a bare frame.

actually the jack stands get in the way of the hoist legs frequently and makes the hoist a pain to position properly// sort of like havin the right launch pad makes it easier to achieve orbit

I agree with the other guy too. Stab the engine in from the side so the hoist legs are perpendicular to the frame rails, one hoist leg in front of the tire and one behind it.

Cmon Man, no reason to get an attitude. We all do something for the first time at one point in our lives.

And like said above, id stab it in from the side or install it and jack the frame up some if it rests on the cherry picker legs after install.
