Red face ? for the 4X4's

hey guys need some lift help. got a 77 C10 lwb 2wd. all my other boxes have been 2wd also so i drop them to the ground like they are suppose to be. but i got this 77 and i don't want it on the ground. want to have a little bit of a view. got stock rims (don't know the size and can't find out because its in storage and im in iraq) so here are some questions.

what is the biggest tire i can fit on a stock C10 5x5 lug rims?

do i have to buy new rims?

should i just do a body lift or should i do something with the suspension?

-if suspension tell me what to get, all the kits are for 4X4's naturally.

ok now to power:

its got a stock 350 in it that has some strength to it
getting a 700R trans put in it.

is this a good trans for bigger tires?

the first picture is my truck.
the second pic is the hight and stance i would like. I also like the third pics stance except on a 77 body. got any idea's? (other then buy a 4X4)

so guys how would i do this? and the harder question how would i do it on a budget?

Ok... you probably have 15x7 or 15x8 wheels, the rule is you can put a tire that is up to 4" wider than your wheel. So you are looking at a 11-12" wide tire. I ran 32x11.50s on my 15x8s in my 82 C10. I only had HD (1ton or Diesel) front coils and only had very minor rub.

Re: ? for the 4X4's

As far as lift kits go... a body lift may be your best option at this point, though I am not a big fan of them. You will have address a few things though such as raising the bumpers, lengthening wiring and steering column, the fan shroud etc...
The suspension lift kits (http://www.fabtechmotorsports.com/) on the market are either coil spring spacers, coil springs and tubular control arms. This does work to raise the truck, but you will loose any suspension droop due to the design of the front suspension the upper control arm will rest on the upper coil spring bucket. Also this will put your ball joints and tie rods at extreme angles causing them to fail sooner. Some of the tubular control arms have the ball joint area angle to relieve some of the stress. The best lift would be a spindle lift, however as far as I know nobody currently makes a spindle lift specifically for 73-87s.
I have heard of people using 88-98 lift spindles, but it involves swapping control arms and ball joints..

To get the lift height of the blue truck you posted you would probably have to do a 3" suspension lift and a 3" body lift....

Re: ? for the 4X4's

I do not know about the overall strength of the 700R4, but it has a lower first gear which would be good for the larger tires. Depending on what size you run you would still want to regear the rear axle. If it doesn't have a trans cooler I would recommend one.

On a budget?... I would suggest the HD coils, maybe a small 1" body lift and 31-32" tires.

Here is a picture of my truck with 32"s...

Sorry for the multiple posts... am still at work and can't type out what I want without being interrupted. And I get logged out if I don't do something on this site after a period of time.
