2WD To a 4WD Questions??-CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

If I had a Longwheelbase leaf-springed 4x4 Truck and wanted to convert it to 2wd and put coils on the rear, how hard would this be. Also I want to run an Automatice transmission in place of the original Manual. Has any of you ever done this modification to your truck before?

Also how many bolt holes will I need to drill to get this done?
Would I need to weld on any kind of special mounts??

I have a complete 67 1/2 ton longbed sitting in my driveway without a body.90,000 mile truck with a 283 powerglide automatic.I may be selling this in the next month or so,with or without the motor and trans. If you are interested let me know,it would be much easier than converting a 4x4,as a matter of fact that is where this body is going, onto a 72 4x4. Good luck

I would definitely not try to convert. The 4x4's are generally worth more. Sell your 4x4 and buy what you want. Much, much easier and probably economically smarter too!

Well that's the problem. We have just purchased a 3DR Stepside LWB truck that is set-up on a 4wd Frame. In other words, a KING-Kab 68 Chevy Truck. THis thing is awesome! The frame has been lengthened for this modification and we want to put it back as a 2WD to lower it and.....

Dude, this is Kentucky you're talking about. This truck would probably go for bookoo bucks if you get it around the right people around here. Where exactly is Franklin? How about some pics of it? and I think that converting it back to 2wd would be a waste of a good chassis and suspension. Just my thoughts.

Do not convert a 4x4 to 2 wheel drive. That is evil. lol Really you can do whatever you want with it, but I would never do something like that.

wildmanaaron,

The easiest way is to get a lwb 2x4 frame and swap the whole body and bed over. Find one that is already an auto for the cross member. Also look for a 71-72 so you have disk brakes up front. These are not that hard to find around here. I know of some down near Somerset KY and there might be some over here near Georgetown. As a matter of fact there is a 71-72 setting at a car lot in G-town that is really only worth the frame (cab and bed rusted beyond repair, frt end missing,) it is setting across rt 460 from the Arby's. Of course I would like a finder's fee of your old 4x4 frame

Let me know I may be able to get you a price on it, may be able to get it for around $300 or less.....
