1995 vs 1996 later tahoe

I'm looking at buying my first Tahoe (2 door 4WD) and am wondering if anyone has an opinion on the 1995 and earlier version version the 1996 - 1999 models as far as the engine, horsepower, fuel injection system, transmission and overall dependability. All comments and opinions are welcomed as I want to get the best used Tahoe for my money. Thanks for the help.

let me start by saying i have a 95 truck and a 96 tahoe, truck has 192,000 miles wifes tahoe has 135,000 ive only had to do minor stuff to my truck her tahoe already has went through a tranny@110,000 ,new intake whitch was a ***** to fix @120,000,all new a/c componets @125,000,and various minor things like fuel pump, water pamp, alternators in my opinion the throttle body is much easier to work on but doesnt have quite the h/p as the vortec and it does get better milage but i will never buy another one again parts are high for em and too much b/s for me well hope this helps...Steve

i like mine, owned it since about 32,000 miles and have'nt had any major probs. (104,000 now) i only wish i had the shift on the fly option instead of the floor stick, but that's just for cosmetic reasons. all my failures have been the usuals from these years - water pump, wiper circuit board, oil filter housing leak, and ??? no ands that 's it. BUY IT!!

The VORTEC is awesome and it takes computer mods like a power programmer which is also great. VTEC has lots more power and more reliable IMO. Mine has done excellent , only normal stuff gone wrong with 117,000 miles. Definitly get the 96'.

Dude, your so fired No hondas here!

I would not buy a pre-96 truck unless its a 87 or older. 96 is good for two reason: A: vortec heads. Yeah baby! B: roller cams

I love 96 and up vortec's. Heck they basicly make my paycheck from week to week. On average we do 3-4 GM intake gasket jobs every week. Thats no overstatment.... Mainly its the 4.3 and 5.7 vortec design (late 95+). Other than that, these still had the same problems as the pre 96 models. I believe there was another thread on this and I listed some of the common problems (large list) with these vehicles.

All in all, I'd still say they are decent rides.... All manufactures have thier problems.

I would definetly go Vortec all the way. i have a 96 Z71 and it kicks ass with that vortec. my uncle has a 95 w/o the vortec and there is a huge difference in power between the two. Go with the vortec buddy.
