Re: 1970 steering column
no.
Just messin around. I think you can grab the lower section of a mid 70 chevy truck column and bolt it up. Last edited by Joemomma1; 05-13-2010 at 01:28 PM. |

Re: 1970 steering column
Do you just have the column or do you also have the lower section with the rag joint that bolts to the gear box?

Re: 1970 steering column
I you have the upper and lower shaft all you have to do (maybe) is to drill out the bin and collapse the shaft a little and it should bolt right up to you steeing box. (that is all i had to do at least)

Sick5, this isn't an "instant message" forum. It may take a couple hours for answers. Bumping and asking the same question over again won't get you an answer any faster.
Be patient, or try dialing 911

Re: 1970 steering column
Sick5 you really need the intermediate section with the rag joint to take the vibration out...!

Re: 1970 steering column
I can tell you what I did. I used the column from a '64 Impala on my '66. I used a Borgeson ujoint coupler that if I remember right got from Jegg's or Summit. Drilled out the plastic rivets and collapsed and repinned a lower section of a later model truck column and installed it with a new rag joint to my ps gearbox. Hope this helps.

Re: 1970 steering column
http://www.borgeson.com/
They make several types and configurations. I used the one that is splined on the one end and d-shaft on the other. |

Re: 1970 steering column
No you won`t have to count splines but it will be sized, 1 inch, or 5/8, I believe, if you get one from a truck it should match up.

Re: 1970 steering column
This is a 73 Van column with a lower from a mid 70's Chevy Truck. I cut the original end off of the truck lower because it didn't match up with the van column and I used a 36 spline/DD u joint that was bought at a local speed shop.
