choke idle adjustment

I have 1972 4 bbl q-jet and have two questions

1. The choke seems to be running too high RPMs when I first start how I can adjust this down.
2. The rpm after it gets to running temperature is too high what is the idle adjustment the one to the far right on the front of Carb?

Re: choke idle adjustment

Sorry no pics. Idle speed is controlled by a screw under the choke. Hard to see and get at. Phillips head screw driver will work.
Idle speed when warmed up--screw on linkage on drivers side. Probably one you're looking at. Buy a book on quadrajets. Awesome illistrations in there.

Re: choke idle adjustment

Thanks for all the help and picture. I have it set and running pretty good but I have a problem.

The problem I am having is the divorce choke I have when it gets hot is not allowing the carb plate to open but wants to close it or leave it half way open. (I have taken it off so the engine will run atr 700 Rpm)

Does anyone have a divorce choke on their 350 that they could provide picture. This is a 1972 350.

Re: choke idle adjustment

Are you referring to the old style coil spring choke?

I used to have one of those on my 69 and converted it to a manual choke. I've never been fond of the old style spring type. The quadrajet that I intend to use now (when I get the engine going again) is the phenolic adjustable type.

Re: choke idle adjustment

Changing the subject to an electric choke from the spring divorce choke style is that a good move and how hard is it to connect or hook up.

I have been thinking about putting one on.

Re: choke idle adjustment

I bought an Edelbrock 1901 Q-Jet (they don't sell 'em now) and it uses a divorced choke. I also have the Performer intake (2101) which has the well for the same choke. It always worked great for me.
