leaf spring eye

Picked up some 56" leaf springs at the local pick and pull, a few days later I noticed one of the spring eyes appears to be cut. In the picture it"s the top one. Can I run it like this or is it scrap metal?
If it makes any difference it is the front eye

Re: leaf spring eye

Looks broken to me. Spring is trash. You run the risk of it flexing enough to just pop out and cause all sorts of carnage. What are you trying to accomplish with changing springs?

Re: leaf spring eye

The previous owner removed a couple leafs to lower the rear. I want to go lower with a flip kit but with the current leaf springs that would put me too low. I got these to raise it back up and then flip it, if that makes sense. I got 56" because that is all the pick and pull had. I was going to move the hanger

Since the bottom carries the weight could I weld a piece back on the top?

Re: leaf spring eye

Welding on that is going to make the metal brittle. I wouldnt mess with them. There is force on all sides of that spring eye. Everytime you stand on the throttle the springs wrap up a bit.

Re: leaf spring eye

Ok thanks. Think I might be able to pull a couple of the shorter leafs out of the 56" pack and put them on my 52" pack?

Re: leaf spring eye

How low are you trying to go it might end up cheaper to just new lowering springs and skip the flip kit altogether. By the time you factor in the cost of the new bushings etc on the old springs plus the flip kit your probably right in the neighborhood of a set of drop springs that will ride and handle better.

Re: leaf spring eye

Theres a couple vendors on here that deal in suspension stuff. I would check around with some of the smaller guys see what they can round up. That price is insane for leaf springs. You could have a set made at fallsway spring for half that.
