Stock Oil Gauge Fitting Size?
My stock mechanical oil pressure gauge has fitting on the back that is both male and female. The male fitting is about the size of 1/8 npt but just a little bigger. It is not 1/4 npt, does anyone know what size female fitting will work here?

Those are uaually a compression type fitting where the line connects.

They use a "threaded sleeve" nut to connect the tubing to the back of the gauge.
The threaded sleeve is a form of compression fitting where the end of the nut itself (instead of a separate sleeve) compresses onto the tubing as the nut is tightened. I believe Weatherhead #6100x2 is the part number you want for the nut that'll fit onto 1/8" OD tubing and screw into the back of the factory gauge connector. It has 5/16"-24 threads. |

I think my local Oreilly's has that fitting. Any idea if it will work with plastic line? |

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work with plastic tubing. Personally, I'd recommend upgrading to copper though ... I just don't trust plastic line for oil gauges.
The Weatherhead catalog says these fittings are for use with aluminum and copper tubing but not recommended for steel tubing. However, GM used them on steel tubing without any problems on these trucks for years. Probably because this application isn't going anywhere near the 500 psi rating of these fittings. |
