1986 distributor question

My 86 has a 305 thats bone stock. Randomly the truck falls flat on its face and has NO BALLS!!! Someone told me the distributor has a 4 pin connector on it(it is there) that goes to the knock sensor for electronic timing retard. He said you can loop the wires to bypass it but can't remember which ones go to each other. Anyone ever hear of this?

Re: 1986 distributor question

Yea, thats all new, and yes the 3-0-why needs to go. But for now its my daily and can't afford to be down. I have heard of the knock sensor retarding the timing causing this issue but don't know what wires to cross.

Re: 1986 distributor question

A stock 305 with the Quadra Junk and factory 2.73 gears = No Balls.

If you want something faster, put something in it to make it faster. Looping wires etc isn't going to do a thing for you on that motor.

Re: 1986 distributor question

I kno it will never have balls with that combo, It has a issue right now where it randomly bogs down. It will be running fine then it feels like 10,000lbs was dumped in the bed. When it does this its idle is really low, it backfires, stalls and has no balls. I was told that looping wires on that connector might fix this.

Re: 1986 distributor question

I found my answer. You jump pins A & C together. It bypasses the Electronic Spark Control.
