need some help....

so, trying to determine what i want to do to finish my rear suspension. the trucks going to be a street legal, but rarely street driven, track truck.

heres what ive got figured so far....
coil-overs, trailing arms, ford 9", 3.73gears, disc brakes, 31spline axles, locker, 15x12 wheels, 30x14 drag radials.... engine is a 6.0L ls turbo charged, meth inj, 4l80e built-up....

price is always a factor. but if somethings worth doing, its worth doing right. that being said im open to any and all suggestions. Thanks Guys!

Re: need some help....

If you want to drag race it a lot a true 4 link would be better then trailing arms.

Re: need some help....

The rear end i would do different like a 4.11 and currie has a 35 spindle axles and diff for the 9 inch. For rear disc i believe you can use them off a 8.8.

Yeah, 3.73 for your application might not really be enough gear, especially with a 30" tall tire. And if you plan on this thing hooking, you better go with a stronger than stock axle & diff. I have a Currie high-pinion 9" in my Jeep, and it's got 35 spline axles and a Detroit Locker (I wouldn't really recommend a true Locker for the street) and I have yet to have any issues with it. I broke my previous stock 9" in the Jeep on the street doing wheelies

Re: need some help....

yeah, im back and forth on gear ratio. i was plannin on a 4.11 for that reason but guys on the ls1 forums said that might be too much gear. i will be using an aftermarket fab 9 from ballistic fabrication with a back brace, true locker and at least 31 spline axles. im not worried about the locker for street use, cause its not going to see a whole lot of cruising.

Re: need some help....

haha. true. man im dying to get this rear end finished. im thinkin of going with just an antiroll bar and a panhard bar. build the 9", get the coilovers and wooo hooo!!!

biggest problem right now is i dont have a box. i want to do an 88-98 stepside, i need to talk to some peeps and see what the width and fenderlip and whatnot is so i can figure out my wheel offset and diff width.

Yeah 3.73 is the stock gear in a f150 now and most other rwd fords use it or close to it.

Re: need some help....

Ultimately it will come down to how much power you are making as to what gears to run. I would stick with the 3.73's until you get on a chassis dyno. Your first pull to redline on the dyno and you'll know how fast you can go with 3.73's. For example, at redline with 3.73's you discover you spin the rollers to 125mph. But your motor is making over 600rwhp. There's a good chance you'll be surpassing 125mph in a quarter mile run, so you'll know to go down numerically in gear, to say a 3.55 or even 3.08, depending on your power.

Have you talked to the guys at Horsepower Solutions in Edmonton?

Re: need some help....

I agree........ 411 and I would use an Auburn Posi or a Detroit True trac or an Eaton pro Posi.... Lockers suck on the street no matter how minimal you are going to use it on the street. The only way i would do a legitimate locker in anything is if it were a trail vehicle only or a drag strip vehicle only... you know .. on and off a trailer at the event kind of ride. Been there done that....
