is there a difference between the 73-80 & 81-87 rear sport bumper brackets?

Yes. The bumpers have a different contour, thus making the brackets different.

anyone have a good set of rear 81-87 bumper brackets. and are there 4 pcs?

I pulled a sports bumper and brackets off an early body style truck (think it was a '79) in the junkyard. It went on my '85 like a glove, brackets and all. As long as the brackets match the bumper, it'll work fine.

that'll work like you said, as long as you are OK with having a 73-80 rear bumper on a 81-87, and a mismatched bumper compared to the front.
