Burning rubber smell when driving on the freeway

my 02 silverado has a burning rubber smell when driving on the freeway. When i have the ac on.

I would check your AC belt and see if it isn't about burnt up. Also look at your clutch on the compressor and see if it is failing.

Its on the right side down low. The Denso compressors on theses truck are known to fail. They are a variable displacement compressor, When they do fail its get stuck on "high" (too much head pressure) causing belt slippage, belt breakage, & what I see most is tensioner breakage. Im not condeming your compressor, just giving a heads up. follow Josh's instructions first.

The clutch is on front of the AC compressor on the far left of that picture. Generally when they start going bad you'll see the belt burning up and/or the clutch starting to fail. I used to put 3-4 of the 02 model compressors a month when the trucks were still under warranty. I wouldn't condemn the compressor without hooking up some gauges etc. on it and see if its acting up cause it could be a simple case of an 8 years old belt that just needs replacing.
