been gone but now i'm back

Hey yall, I don't know how may of yall remember me, but I used to be on here quite a lot a bunch of years ago. I need some info on my next build and figured this would be a good place to start.
Well here it goes. I'm fix'n to start a 86 short bed 1\2 ton to 3\4 ton build up and i wanna get any and all info i can get on what 3\4 ton axles to use. I plan on put'n 35's on it with at least 6" of lift and I plan on run'n 4:11's.
John

Re: been gone but now i'm back

Hey John, I remember your orange swb 4x4 from years ago. I recommend finding some Dana 44 3/4 ton axles. They are a little stronger, but not by much, than the corporate 10 bolts found in 1981-1987. Really you will be fine with 1/2 ton axles unless you really want 3/4 ton. The dana 44 1/2's are the same as dana 44 3/4's. Same with the 10 bolts. You really aren't upgrading that much unless you go with a Dana 60, but atleast with 3/4 ton you will get a 14 bolt rear. Good luck with the new project. Trevor

Re: been gone but now i'm back

John welcome back, not sure how long you've been gone but it's always great to see a 4WD guy.... I'm near Lebanon, PA. I do have a good junkyard that sells parts for a set price (and cheap!). It's out near Cabella's and a few of us are heading out there next Saturday. Let me know if that's in your area and i'll give you the website. A few years ago I pulled a 12-bolt 3.73 posi from there for $35 (plus $10 for the torch job).

BTW, you need to subscribe to ask for parts now, in 2005 they changed a few rules... here is our canned message on the process..

Re: been gone but now i'm back

I threw my 35"s on my K5 for a while and it has 4.10 gears and I really liked that combo - nice rpm's on the highway.
