Hey bud, just visit www.6066gmcguy.org and that should tell you all you need to know about the HEI swap, although I run points still and never have a problem on my V-6. Just adjust the gap during regular tune-ups and they are reliable!

As for the tail lights, I am not sure....

WELCOME ABOARD! I want a burb so bad....

Yeah, I love that site, its where (so far) i've gotten most of my info. Im just wondering if anyone on here has tried any of it...

Since you have a 305 i have a Q for you.. with all new tune up parts, and the holley carb swap, which worked out well..in fact when i bought my sub 8 years ago it had a holley 2bbl already on it. (i upgraded to the 500 about 4 years ago).. anyways to get back to my point.. i parked it for a bout two years and did the usual storage maint. on it, but for some reason after it warms up and gets on the road, it likes to die.. not flat out die, but like idle down until it dies. i cant figure it out because it idles fine in park, and in drive, just after i get driving it does this.. any ideas?

Have you checked the tank sock screen, or carb filter, or external filter. sounds as if your running out of fuel...

I think the reverse/back up lenses for the Suburban and the Step side are interchangeable. They might be a slightly different shape than the Suburbans but at about $5 a piece you can get two to match cheaply enough. Measure the diameter of your good one and contact any of the major after market dealers (LMC, Harmons, Golden State....) and see what size their step side lens is.

I bought these from arrowhead truck parts in Glendale Az. they are not correct but fit and lookgreat. I think they are from a 67-72 trk. Hope this helps.

Re: '66 GMC Suburban reverse light lenses...

I have the GM HEI in my 1966 GMC with 305E. I am very happy with it. The HEI produces a much hotter spark than the original ignition which makes it easier to start and prevents fouling plugs. I haven't had to touch it since it was installed. The 6066gmcguy.org site has all the plans.

regards,
Steve

I had this happen on my GMC right when I first got it. I was still running the one barrel holley at the time. I ended replacing the fuel pump and never had a problem again. I still haven't figured out why it supplied fine at idle but the second you got on the highway it would die....

Thanks for the tip.. in fact i just noticed today that there was fluid starting to seep out of the weep-hole in the side of the fuel pump. Ill replace it asap and see what happens.
