Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

I got a 69 lwb c-10 ford 9" rear 4.11 with spool, stocks springs front and rear. I recently built a 412 sbc to replace old 355. With old motor which was pretty mild with a 150 shot truck went 7.63 1/8 mile and would 60' 1.65's. Tires are 295/65r-15 mt et street radials. The new motor "might" make 475 if i'm lucky but it won't hook for nothing! The truck doesn't try to transfer or anything not even with the shocks on the front off. All it wants to do is spin and wheel hop. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

More info would be helpful. Are you leaving the line on the bottle?Or stepping it in a little later in the run?Have you moved any weight to the rear?(Gas tank or fuel cell relocation, battery etc).I'm guessing the added horses are overloading the tires/suspension since you said it did 1.65 60's with the old motor.

What kind of springs do you have in the back? Leafs or coils? If you have leafs or leaves you might try some kind of traction bar set up, Cal-tracs, slide-a-link or adding some leaves to the front half of your springs. I can't really see a coil spring rear wheel hopping per say. It might actually be a better suspension for drag racing. The rear control arm would almost act like a traction bar.

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

coil springs can be great for drag racing, but only if set up right, i can get my c20 with a 292 to axle hop bad if i take off hard in granny, or second sometimes(sm465). youll need a sway bar if u dont have one. as vehicles tend to squat more to one side then the other when taking off, and coils seem to amplify that by bouncing back and forth. try climbing in your bed and jump around, i know mine wiggles bad, sometimes nearly making me fall lol, and youll see what i mean. make sure your panyard (spelt that right?) bar bushing are good.

Leafs are something I'm familliar with, but with coils I have no idea so I'm out on this one. I'm curious as to what adding a set of stiffer coils would do though.

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

if i remember correctly in drag racing generally u want stiffer springs in front and softer in rear to help plant the vehicle weight to the rear, have u tried keeping shocks in front and removing shocks in rear to see if it helps plant better? (i wouldnt run it like that, too long but just to see if it makes a difference)

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

if you are getting wheel hop with a coil rear, i would start with new bushings on the trailing arms.

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

wow took me all nite to see that u say it has a ford 9inch? do u have pics of it installed? im thinking the trailing arms are mounted slightly different then they would be on a gm axle, maybe they not providing the leverage they should like a traction bar? are the coils mounted at same angle/location as stock? just a thought maybe some pics would help us generate ideas

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

I mounted the 9" just as if the 12-bolt was. I have tried 4 different sets of springs and I've gone both ways I really pulling my hair out

Re: Help me fast guys!!!! LOL

I know we had a heck of a time getting my brother inlaws truck to hook(weight distribution stunk) mind you he had a ladder bar set up , We used double adjustable rears and fronts...The truck was hitting the tire hard then unloading then grabbing again..slowed down the compresion on the front and sped it up on the back.....
