Transmission ? on Inline 6
I was wondering if I might get some insight on this ? I have from you guys. I have a 67 C10 with a Inline 6 and 3 on the tree but wanna convert to automatic. I have a 350 automatic transmission and was wondering would it work and work correctly? I am not looking to build big power etc just be able to drive around ton and haul stuff with time to time. So will this work at all? Transmission came from 70 Chevelle and would be rebuilt first. Thanks in advance for any help/tips Brandon

it'll work, they came from the factory with powerglides, TH350, and TH400's bolted to either inline, the 250 and the 292

I owned a 70 Bel Air and a 65 Pontiac Le Mans - both had a 250 and turbo 350. It's a good combo.

It will work, and work well, but this will be more of a project than you may be expecting unless you have done a manual to automatic swap before.
Your best bet would be to look for a donor vehicle, or you will be scrounging parts forever. Here are the MAJOR parts you will need: An automatic radiator, oil cooler lines, an automatic column or a floor shifter, shift linkage, a kickdown cable and bracket, a crossmember for the rear mount, a flexplate, and a starter. There were no TH350s before about 1969, so your donor truck should be in the 69-72 range. The good news is that your stock driveshaft will work if you have a "short" TH350 (about 27" long). The bad news is that you will have to remove the bellhousing crossmember, and it is likely to be riveted in place. If you still want to go ahead with this and have any specific questions (yes, I'm sure I missed some of the small parts), feel free to ask. Ray |

There is one other thing that you may have to do but I am not sure with the TH350. My '67 3/4 had a 3 spd and I put in a SM465 4 spd. My '67 floor pan was one piece with a low hump. I had to cut out the hump and use a bolt in tall hump from a 4 spd cab. I read that the TH400 also requires the tall bolt in hump. The TH400 is slightly bigger than the TH350 so again I am not sure there.

Neither the TH350 or TH400 require a tall hump floor. Short is fine.

I have no problem pulling a transmission in my garage and got plently of tools since worked on cars 9 yrs from GM,Honda and Toyota dealers and indepenant shop on the side. I just wanted to make sure if it was right move since I have one and what was need for most part. I do have trans,shifter column and crossmember are coming, with few other parts from another guy on another forum that is in my area who is trying to round other parts I will need up.
