Backfireing through carb. HELP - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Every once in a while when I puch the gas down real hard my truck sounds like it backfires through the carb. It will only do this once and then it wont do it for a few days/weeks. What is causing this and how can I fix it? It doesnt sould like a good thing for the carb. I have noticed that it happens when I dont let the truck warm up properly before i start driving it. Thanks for the help guys.

That happens to me when my timing is retarded. If I advance it it goes away.

Simple fix. Let it warm up before you drive it.
All V8's do it when they are cold. Not allowing the engine to warm up causes premature wear on the engine. Very important to let it get warm up first.

It can also mean it has a lean condition. Witch makes sence if the engine is cold and the choke isnt adjusted right.
