68 Experts Needed!

A real brain buster here: On the trucks with an electric choke, was the manual choke hole on the firewall plugged with something or was it not drilled? My 67 will not be using the manual choke, so I want to know what the factory did. Obscure question, but I know someone here knows.

Yes, there was a plug/cover. They come up for sale here from time to time.

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

I have a handful of the bezel emblems, but what did they do to the firewall where the choke cable went through? Was there a rubber plug or did they just not drill the hole?

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

On mine it was perforated in a circle, so you could punch it out.
I remember helping my Dad punch it out when I was young, he put a cig lighter outlet there and stuck in a map light.

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

The choke on the early trucks were not electric, but a heated spring type- divorced choke. The electric choke did not start until later. Engine type dictated the divorced choke or the manual choke I believe- 327 would have been divorced,307 w/ 2 bbl would be a manual choke.

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

Right... but what was done with the choke hole in the firewall? Doesn't the manual choke come through right above where the windshield-washer lines go through the firewall? I would ASSume that they just used a big plug, but I just want to know what was original...

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

Mine had the oil line going through that area... It was an original divorced choke 327 until I put the new intake on...

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

Thanks Mike! As long as I know that the hole was there through the firewall either way, I'm good.

Re: 68 Experts Needed!

I would think that all cabs are the same, except for A/C and non-A/C... THye use to block off uneeded holes with plates (clutch delete, radio delete etc..) The tach wire might have had a specific hole though, hard to tell..
