the old shocks are a larger bolt size than the later years...wtf?
guess I gotta remove the top mounts and fab new ones?

What year is your truck? On my 1960 GMC, after I swapped to a 1975 front suspension the upper shock bolts were either too small or too large (it was over 10 years ago so I don't remember clearly). I simply removed the factory shock bushing, or inserted one from a dead shock, and that solved the problem.

yeah, mines a 1960 and the doner is an 80 so I held on to the bushings too. Prolly have to hone out the rubber a little?

It's been a long time, but I think I just pressed mine in with a bench vise. Good luck. You might also want to check out the following link. I found it necessary to relocate the upper shock brackets further to the rear to correctly align the shock with the new lower mounting location.

forgot to say...mines a 4x4...and your mounts look like they have 2 ears, which can be drilled out. But mine has a bracket with a stud that the eye slides over and a nut on the end. Kinda weak actually.
So maybe I should be lookin for a set of mounts from a 60-66 2 wheel drive?
