Does it take a special tool to get these handles off? Just curious, I'm afraid I'm going to break something by trying to pull it off.

Yes....there is a special flat tool you can get at any parts store or you can use a small hooked tool or a small flat screw driver. You are shooting to get a small horse shoe looking clip out of the handle. BE CAREFULL not to loose the clip. If you have to buy a replacement they SUCK!

In a pinch, you can take a clean shop rag and wrap it around the handle shaft (between door panel and handle) and pull the rag around and out.The little ears of the clip will get caught in the rag and will usually pop right out.

When you go to put them back on just put them on the handle and push it onto the stud. It will snap into place.

This is the tool I use... cheap to buy, easy to use.

I have the tool, but usually use a small piece of coathanger with a little hook in the end, reach behind the handle, grab the clip, give a quick pull, and they usually pop right off.

Those things are a pain, but I can usually get them with the small flatblade screwdriver method.

I have done that several times, and while I always eventually got it to work (and only lost a few spring clips), I finally got the tool I posted above. It is soooooo much easier.

Agreed...the tool is the way to go and once you figure out how to use it correctly.....its so quick and easy and rarely does the clip come off the handle.

Hey how about the skinney low down on "Quality" inner window / door handles.?!?!
Convienence parts store knobs/handles are junk.
