so my 88 tbi egr is bad, what's it going to do?
Ok I ordered a new egr from amazon.com BUT, it won't work, wrong part no. It said it fit and then when I tried to find the number on the chart, it wasn't there, I needed another part no.
So... here's the deal... won't hold vac. doesn't throw a code, at all, I took it off and it was pretty gunky on bottom, i cleaned it, and when you push up the diaprham the pintle moves, up and down smooth, but when applying vac. it doesn't budge and will not hold any vac. at all. It also doesn't kill the motor is you pull up on it while the truck is running. SO is mine stuck open or shut? What's it gonna do or have affect on? I plugged the vac. line to it, and the truck runs and drives as it did before i figured out it was bad, no codes or anything. It's an all stock 88 tbi 350 in my k1500 except for some shorties with an o2 sesnor in the collector as stock replacements for manifolds, no cats and no air pump.

Re: so my 88 tbi egr is bad, what's it going to do?
I wish anyone who had an EGR issue would do a search on this forum before spending money on parts. I understand trying to save some bux, but all that I have seen on here says there are basically two different types. To find out which one you need, take your VIN to a GM dealership parts department.
But, do a search on here and you'll find plenty.

not really all you have to do is pull the number off the egr and refference it to the oe numbers listed with the new ones.

Re: so my 88 tbi egr is bad, what's it going to do?
well I went thru alot of pages of egr posts and info and found nothing really that helps me.
I keep seeing if it's removed it'll throw a code? how's it gonna do this when it's vac. line is connected to a bleed valve that's got an electrical connector, and vac. line going to the front of the tbi? I ask because I don't think it's been working since I got the truck and it throws no egr code, and I even plugged the vac. to the egr and got nothing, also plugged the bleed valve's port that is supposed to have the filter on it and was like that for awhile and still nothing.

hmmm shouldn't be, I rebuilt the motor and cleaned everything, hasn't been in the truck for maybe a lil over a year now and only drove for about 8-10 months.
As I said before though the egr itself will not hold vac. at all.

Re: so my 88 tbi egr is bad, what's it going to do?
ok why is it that on my egr bleed valve the bleed part of it that's supposed to have a filter on it, was plugged off before and ran good, now that it's got a filter on it the truck runs worse, it has the hard hit back on idle when it's up to temp and stopped in gear, and is alot more frequent, like somebody kicks the tire or something is what it feels like, as for the cough or whatever on idle when cold it's about the same maybe worse.
I think I'm gonna plug the thing back off and try it, or just back my timing back down. Have to keep in mind my timing is not at zero it's advanced because it wouldn't go over 40 mph to the floor before, when I first got it on the road. That was before I found the 2 vac. leaks and the egr valve bad.
