New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

Hello everyone, My name is Russ, from Lawrenceville, Ga. I recently bought a 57 Chevy so I'm glad I found this forum. I've been a regular on the 61-71 Dodge truck forum for a long time but decided I wanted a new (older) truck. My truck is in pretty nice condition but needs a few cosmetic and mechanical upgrades. It's already got a rebuilt 350, a 12 bolt rear, and five lug Corvette wheels. It runs out good and made the 90 mile trip home from where I got it with no trouble. My plan is to do the mechanical upgrades like power steering and disc brakes before any cosmetic upgrades. Ultimately it will be light blue with whitewall tires, with chrome bumpers and grill. Here's a couple of pics of it when I got it.

Re: New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

Welcome Russ. You and I live paralell lives only a nation apart!!
I used to hang around the Sweptline forums as well, didnt post much but I think I remember your truck. Was it a 69 short bed W100? If it's the one I'm thinking of it was a beautiful truck. Do you still have it? I sold my 69 W100, the rust was just too bad. I always wanted a chevy TF and I ran across a 56 Chevy Napco so here I am. It looks like you have a good start with your new project. Good luck!!

Here's a pic of my old Dodge

Re: New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

I remember your truck well, I liked it so much that it almost made me decide to paint mine light blue, but I kept it the original color. I had mine for thirteen years and just got restless for an older truck. My 57 Chevy that I have now will definitely be light blue when I get around to painting it.
I hope the guys here won't mind a Dodge pic.

Re: New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

Yes thats the one!! It is indeed a small world. I think you will enjoy this forum. A bunch of really good guys that dont judge and are extrememly helpfull. My project is on hold for the summer. Too much fishing and camping to do. We have to enjoy the short summers while we can up here. I need to start a build thread but my slow progress would be exremely boring. But this fall I will get one going.
Enjoy your truck and enjoy the huge aftermaket parts selection for these trucks compared to the old sweptlines.

Great looking truck! Hope to paint mine blue one day, maybe! If you plan to put a clip under her, stop by and see Mike Chesser, he did a awesome job on mine a few years back. Keep us posted on your progress!

Re: New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

Dru, I used to spend summers at my Granddad's farm near Fitzgerald, and made the Saturday morning trip into town every week in his 50 Studebaker pickup. Got a few relatives left in that area but don't get down there much any more. I make the Moultrie swap meet every year, might have seen you there.
JJ, I have bought some stuff from Mike Chesser, been to his shop a few times, but never had him do any mods for me. He's a friendly guy. His shop is near me.
I'm keeping the straight axle but have installed power disc brakes, and I'm in the middle of a power steering upgrade. I'm Keeping this truck looking stock and only doing a few mods for safety and comfort. My plan is to paint it light blue and put whitewalls on it but I have a lot to do before it's painting time.

Nice truck. I am new here myself....only a couple months. There is a lot of good info here and, unlike some other forums, there seems to be no arrogant jerks. My truck is a 55 that had a frame off restoration a while ago....I am getting ready to do an IFS myself. Alot of helpful folks here....

Hey Russell,

I also live in Lawrenceville and have a 57 in my workshop. Currently working on the same type of upgrades that you are planning for yours. Good to have someone local to talk with. We should get together sometime, so send me an email at kap506@yahoo.com when you are available.

Re: New guy, just got a 57 Chevy truck

Russ,

Fitz has not changed that much. Growing some what. It is still all about Football. I love living here. Maybe we can meet one day. I am doing a Retro-Mod on my '57. A little old with a little new. If there is anything original that you may be missing, let me know, I may not be using it on mine and can work something out. Maybe, I will see you in Moultrie.

funny update on my dads powerram. he was replacing the alternator and didnt unhook the battery-grounded out his socket on the manifold- and like a piece of 14ga wire caught on fire. i put it out with the fire extinguisher and just thank god i didnt do it

You're KILLING me with that truck. My '57 was in about the same condition when I got divroced after 20 years and had to sell it. It's been ten years and it still kills me. I was thinking about a '57 again when I came across my '46. I like it but I LOVE the '57. More info please?

Russell, Light blue like this one, or metallic light blue? I love deep, body colored steelies with stock caps and beauty rings.
