Seats for 1970 Stepside

I am having trouble locating a stock bench seat for my 1970 SWB stepside. Can anyone tell me what other seats, either bench or bucket, will work with out having to relocate the gas tank?

Re: Seats for 1970 Stepside

I have a 66 seat in my truck. so I'd think anything from 60-72 would fit without mods. I have also seen a lot of late 80's-early 90's seats fit into these trucks without too much labor.

but with a little work, you can make a LOT of seats work without moving the tank. you may have to sacrifice a bit of leg room though.......

Thanks for your reply.
The truck has an IH seat in it but I don't know what model. No leg room at all and seat is all the way back against the tank. I would hate to buy a set of buckets and find out I would have no leg room. My son and I are both 6 ft tall.
If anyone out there has installed later model seats with out relocating the tank I would sure love to hear from them.

Re: Seats for 1970 Stepside

Normally the in-cab tank does not interfer with putting a seat in because the back of the seat will hit the cab above tank before the seat will hit the tank.

One problem with some seats is they have more cushion which makes them too thick causing a person to set too close to the steering wheel.

Re: Seats for 1970 Stepside

here is a ninety something? seat in my wife's 67 it mounts in the holes where the red arrows are and the factory holes is the yellow arrow I WOULD STRONGLY SUGGEST TO ADD SUPPORT TO THE FLOOR WITH STEEL PLATE TO KEEP THE SEAT FROM RIPPING THROUGH THE FLOOR IN A CRASH the po did not do that but i will before the truck is driven pretty comfy i have rode in a buddies truck with one in it and it has a arm rest for the driver that folds down

Yep, we put a similar seat to the one you show out of a '92 GMC into a '72 C-10. Like you we had to put added support under the floor for the holes we had to drill.

I got these out of a 95 Silverado. I had to modify the floor like HubScrub said, but I love these things (after I had to upgrade to the internally regulated alternator) now that I've gotten the power lumbar working
