the PO of my blazer called me

i got a random call about my blazer lastnight.the first thing i said was that it wasnt for sale anymore.he said that he used to own the blazer and that the motor was not a 350 it was a 400 that came out of a trans-am.the numbers say it was 1973 350 though.i think he must have been misinformed about the motor when he got it.

The numbers on the block don't lie.

Re: the PO of my blazer called me

That's exactly what I'm thinkn. The way he talked it was like he pulled the motor out of the TA and put it in my blazer. Like you said the numbers don't lie

The numbers don't lie. Many times the window sticker and vin number will say one thing and the block will be another. Many police units were supposed to be 350s back in the 80s. A number check of the motors came back as 305s. Several agencies had to be refunded a few bucks fom GM.

When did a SBC 400 ever come in a TA? Never that I've heard of, but I'm not so bright and have a bad memory

Yeah, I'm thinking it'd be a Pontiac 400 (not a SBC 400) if the engine really did come from a TA (and was original to the TA).

Re: the PO of my blazer called me

I say go with the numbers!!! He may not even have the right vehicle. The 400 Pontiac motor is ok but not what one would want to rebuild as they have Siamese cylinders and tend to run hot once bored out. be thankful he is wrong LOL. This is one reason why I dislike selling privately. all the questions, all the "well I would have to do this". you put your number out there and you never know what you will get..... some times you just have to shake your head and smile at them.

Re: the PO of my blazer called me

Thanks for the input guys. The numbers say its a 350 with 250 hp. Right now it runs really good in first gear that is. Its got some tranny issues at the moment. Hope its just the govener needing replaced. I just need time to check it out. Hard to do with two teenage kids that play sports

Re: the PO of my blazer called me

A Pontiac 400 is nothing like a chevy 350. Most people don't know what the hell they're talking about when it comes to motors. I bought a 1984 Buick Electra the other day to use as a demo derby car. Guy said it has a "350" in it. I looked at it and it said "5.0" on the radiator support. I asked the guy again what it had in it, he pointed to the label and said, it's a 5.0 so that's a 350....

....are you talking about the numbers on the block?...is it the original motor?.....some one could have swapped in a 400 along the way. a 350 chevy and a 400 chevy are allmost identical, but a pontiac 400 is another story. who knows?...some people can't tell the difference between a camaro and a trans-am! let alone their motors. the numbers on the block will tell.

Doesn't the Pontiac BB400 only bolt to (BuickOldsPontiac)non chev bell housing.......my 81 firebird had a buick 231v6.....as did my 78 olds cutlass(replaced with 84-231 or 3.8 block)

Re: the PO of my blazer called me

7ft Stews blazer has a pontiac engine in it, and according to the numbers is a 350 and not a 400 as he was told by the PO. And it's real easy to tell a sbc from a pontiac, they look completely different and the pontiacs are physically larger on the outside. And buick, olds, pontiac and cadillac shared the same bell housing which was different from the chevys, but there is also dual bolt pattern th350s and 2004Rs the will bolt to both.
