transmission shifts late

My transmission shifts late on every gear. it just started this some days its perfect others it revs way to high on every shift. not sure what trans I have someone put an 85 305 firebird motor into my 72 truck and I dont have a clue what it is.

x2 on fluid level. Not a whole lot of fluid in there so a little loss can make a big difference when sloshing around.

If fluid level is good check your vacuum hoses to the trans for cracks? Depending on the type of tranny (if applicable)

does it have a detent cable? i had a truck with 700-r4 it would shift horrible took me forever to figure out the detent cable was broke. i cant remember if it affected upshifts but it hated downshifts. just my .02
